One of the most common questions asked in business circles is – what makes someone successful? Even though success is pretty common, it’s still a mystery to many. A lot of aspiring entrepreneurs do whatever they can to find it, but end up failing. While there are many reasons as to why you may fail, there’s one strong reason you aren’t able to make it big in business – and that’s because you lack a network.
What do we mean by a network? A network basically consists of the influential people you know, people who can help you take your business forward. Regardless of what niche you’re in or what kind of business goals you have, you need to have a strong, relevant network to find long term success. Because you can only do so much on your own.
In the following article we talk about a few simple tips that can help you grow a strong network and at the same time help your business get the much needed leverage…
#1: Research and Attend Events
The people that will benefit your network greatly are often referred to as influencers. These are individuals who have worked hard to build solid assets in their industry. They have gone through the biggest hurdles and have met unimaginable challenges to be where they are today. Having even a few influencers in your network can do wonders.
Now, when it comes to meeting these influencers, you can’t just email them and ask them out for a coffee. Nope, you have to get hold of them at specific events – where they’re much more open for a chat.
In order to find these events, you should do your homework. You have to go out there and do some real research to know which events are the best to attend. It doesn’t make sense to attend each and every network that happens. The key here is to find the right events through effective research.
#2: Connect to Influencers on the Social Web
While it’s difficult to get in touch with any influencer on the Internet, you can definitely try to connect with them by following their activities. But in order to do that, you need to first identify the influencers and focus your efforts on analyzing their approach, their interests, etc. Get into their shoes to really understand they’re taking things online.
But you don’t just stop there if you’re serious. You actually go out there and connect to them in whatever way possible. One proven way to do it is to find them on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. This is where it’s easier to get noticed by them.
Once you’ve got a few influencers on your list, work towards adding value and helping them out. For example, you can regularly retweet their tweets and mention them. Or you can promote their blog posts on your Facebook page or on Twitter. The idea is to show the influencers that you aren’t a nobody and more importantly – that you exist.
#3: Do Something Epic
One of the easiest way to get noticed by influencers and build your network is to do something epic or amazing. It’s your way of telling your community that you’ve got what it takes. The more people that notice you, the bigger your network will grow. When we talk about doing something epic, it has to be something that blows your audience and influencers away. So push the mediocrity out of the window and go after epicness. Show your existing network that you are really worth it.
You can achieve this by creating a great product or by taking up a task that completely sets you apart. The idea here is to get as many eyeballs as possible, so that you can add more influencers and experts to your network.
But in order to do something epic, you have to take that first step. You have to go out there and take real, massive action. You have to do whatever you can to get moving. The idea is to start, now to get the best possible results.
#4: Make Introductions
This is a tactic that is greatly underutilized when it comes to growing a network. The point is, if you are looking out to extend your own network, you can do it by helping others out. You can do it by introducing one influencers to another. That’s how you get into the inner circles.
By simply making introductions you’re not only getting noticed by the influencers, but you’re also turning them into a powerful contact. It’s definitely what the big guys have been doing for a long time, and there’s no reason as to why you shouldn’t do it. The more such introductions you make, the easier it will be for you to connect to your target audience and grow your own network.
