I have been a blogger for as long as blogs were introduced and after toying with it for a while, have also managed to learn a lot since; I would not deny that while learning the ropes I stumbled and fell on my face many a times; I also have quite a few blunders to my credit; but God has been kind; that with each mistake He brought me a little more wisdom; each blunder brought me a deeper insight into the workings of spiders and SEs.

At this point, I am comfortable in my skin and doing well for myself; am an ethical and a proud SEO strategist and can think of several successful campaigns that I have created in the recent past. With that said, I will come to the point; I am hoping that this post will come in handy for people just starting out; as well as intermediate bloggers. Since I use WordPress like a hundred thousand others worldwide, I am going to focus on things you can do on your WordPress blog to come in the main lane. We know by now that there are two ways to optimize your blog; from within, and from outside. Technically the terms for them are on-site SEO and off-site SEO.

The first step involves identifying keywords and phrases that you will optimize your blog with. So far we have been using all kinds of premium and free keyword suggestion tools, haven’t we? Allow me to show you a different way to identify key-phrases for your blog.

Get as specific or close to the core theme of your post, if the post is about Apple iPod, ideally one of the tags should read Apple iPod and should not be all general like iPods, technology, communication etc.

Misspellings can also help draw organic traffic but people are overdoing it however I would still suggest that if there are some words are spelt commonly in more ways than one, then you should use both spellings. My next suggestion is that you can learn to add value to the existing videos on YouTube; you can make it more interesting for your reader and make it part of optimization strategy too. Let me show you how you can do it; when you find a video related to your topic on the YouTube, embed it on your blog after adjusting its dimensions to fit into your blog layout, change the title or extend it to make it more interesting.

After dealing with title, describe the video in your own words; while doing it you can also use part of original description; this exercise will make the whole thing a lot more interesting for your readers. They will get to see/read the original video/stuff; along with that they will read your opinion or point of view on it; if done wisely with a genuine intent, it can turn the post into a never ending discussion!

Next comes the titles of blog posts that bloggers create; and here most bloggers make a mistake (please add this one to your share of The Blunder-kitty) Do you know that you can; and you should use two different titles for the same post while you are publishing it on your blog and while discussing it in social media? Did you know that? Use one of the plugin options available on WordPress; it will help you to create a short and straight post title, and you can create your SEO title longer with better keyword strength; the latter should be used for the original post on your own blog.
